"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This week, I was deliberating between picking Rachel Vincent's Before I Wake and Kelly Creagh's Enshadowed. But I thought that since BIW is releasing so soon and is probably covered more often, I'll go with the latter. It's the sequel to Nevermore, a book I loved so much the wait for the sequel was really killing me for those first few weeks.

From goodreads:
[From the back of the ARC] Varen Nethers is trapped in a perilous dream world -- a treacherous and desolate realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life. Isobel Lanley, plagued by strange visions and haunted by the nightmares of Varen's creation, is the only one who can save him.
Isobel knows that her only hope lies within a Baltimore cemetery. There, in the early morning hours of Edgar Allan Poe's birthday, a mysterious stranger known as the "Poe Toaster" will make his annual homage at the legendary poet's grave.
Only the Poe Toaster holds the key to the way between worlds. But even greater dangers lie ahead for Isobel. An ancient evil, draped in veils of white, is watching, challenging her for Varen's affections. When Isobel finally finds Varen, he is no longer the quiet and brooding boy who once captivated her, but a dark force, powerful and malevolent.
The ending of Nevermore left me heartbroken. Seriously. I was pining to read more of Varen and Isobel! This book made me buy a jacket so I could decorate it like Varen's. Also, the big, hardcover B&N edition of the collected stories and poems of E. A. Poe. The prose of Nevermore was just sooo beautiful, I can't wait to get more of it. I'm curious to find out what exactly is going on with Varen, how he is connected to Poe and Reynolds. Also, Pinfeathers! Unique, creepy character but I was intrigued.
How will Isobel deal with the changes in her life, and what she will do to try and get Varen back? Although the description makes it sound like getting him back might only be the first step of many...
I'm anxious. On the one hand, I can't wait to read it - but on the other hand I find it hard to imagine a scenario in which there is a sort-of-happy ending for Varen and Isobel...
Have you read Nevermore (or been lucky enough to get an Enshadowed ARC) ? What books can you not wait to get your hands on? Comments make me happy :)
I haven't read of the Nevermore series before but I might give it a try. I've been wanting to start some new series (:

The ending of the first book leaves hope ;) But it's not going to be easy for Isobel to get her happy ending. I don't rule it out altogether though. Authors have such ingenious ways of turning things around...
DeleteI have yet to read the first book, but I absolutely LOVE the covers of both of them. Great pick, Carmen!
ReplyDeleteStop by my blog
Not gonna lie, cover-love is what first drew me to it. Well, that and the Poe-ish title. And the content definitely lives up to the cover ;)
DeleteI read Nevermore and I loved it. I initially bought it on eBook, but loved it so much I had to get a physical copy as well. It is just so different and the world Creagh created is quite intriguing. I am dying for Enshadowed and cannot wait to get my hands on it. Great pick.

I'm probably going to do the same with Enshadowed. I need to read it right when it comes out, but I need it to be the same edition as the first book and I think it will take a while for that to come out - so ebook it'll be :)
DeleteLove your pick as well! Still haven't read Silence >.<
haha I am like that too! My books have to match lol.
DeleteYou have to read Silence, it is my favorite so far =]
(Sorry for replying so late, I was at a rock festival this weekend...)
DeleteYes!! Matching is important! It drives me crazy if the books are different heights etc. Or like Holly Black's Curse Workers series, where they changed the whole design before Black Heart came out >.<
I think I'll borrow Silence from a friend, because I have an edition problem there as well ^^'' But I really want to have read it when Finale comes out...
Nevermore is my favorite.I love this book. Love the characters. It's true that it doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's right there with "Obsidian", " the unbecoming of Mara Dyer", "Storm", "Hourglass", and a few others I've read that stand out. Nevermore is my favorite though. I have it on my Nook, and also a hard copy. Love it. Impatient for Enshadowed
ReplyDeleteI agree. I haven't gotten around to reading 'Obsidian' yet but I have Hourglass on my kindle. I really want to try and read some of those books over the summer now that I actually have more time. But Nevermore, for me, is just in a league of its own. I almost went crazy when I finished it in late August and saw that I have to wait a whole year for the next book. Then again, if it helps Kelly Creagh to make it even better the wait is definitely worth it!
