Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews to showcase all the books we got in the past week. Those can be bought, won, gifted, for review, borrowed, print or ebooks... no matter, just share what you got :)
I got a bit more books this week :) Maybe it's because I was feeling bad so I bought myself something pretty. I don't know. This apartment-hunting stuff really grates on me :(
Anyway, here's what I got this week.
From NetGalley:
Confessions of an Almost Girlfriend, by Louise Rozett
A Fatal Likeness, by Lynn Shepherd
I really enjoyed Confessions of an Angry Girl (my review) and with the way it ended I just HAD to have the sequel! Thank you, Harlequin UK :)
A Fatal Likeness caught my eye on Netgalley, I hadn't heard of it before. But the time period and the involvement of Percy Bysshe and Mary Shelley intrigued me. It's also been a while since I've read a literary novel that isn't 100+ years old.
Print:
Legend, by Marie Lu
People have been raving about it for ages and I always thought it sounded interesting. I was at the bookstore and it was fairly cheap for a book around here (13 bucks for a paperback is a bargain), so I got it :)
Ebooks:
Destiny's Fire, by Trisha Wolfe
What Really Happened in Peru, by Cassandra Clare & Sarah Rees Brennan
Magic Graves, by Jeaniene Frost & Ilona Andrews
I've had Destiny's Fire on my wishlist for a while. I don't remember why I got it just now, maybe it was a bit cheaper than usual or otherwise highlighted somewhere. Anyhow, I'm curious about it!
And I just had to have Magnus Bane's adventure ;) I also can't wait to see what a collabo of Sarah and Cassie reads like!
As for Magic Graves, I didn't know it existed until a couple days ago. I was reading book 6 in Jeaniene's Night Huntress series and checking for the next release dates when I saw that she's written a couple novellas I don't have in any of my anthologies yet. This is also a chance for me to finally check out Ilona Andrews :)
What do you think of my haul? Have you read any of these and can urge me to move them up in my pile? Also, please leave a link to you own haul :)
While you're here: I have 2 giveaways going on at the moment, one for Flight, a YA sci-fi with harpies, and one for Marking Time, a YA time travel/paranormal/urban fantasy which I loved and also marks my first author interview! Both of them are open internationally.
I'm sorry to hear that you were feeling bad. Hope the books make you feel better. You have some interesting choices there. I particularly like the eBooks you selected.

Sorry to read you were feeling bad! Book buying always helps me. I really love the cover of A Fatal Likeness. It looks very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you getyourself an apartment soon so you're not feeling bad any longer:) LOL!!! I read Legend (from library) last Fall but I was so invested in the story and I realized it was a book I want to re-read from time and time again so I got myself a paperback as well and it JUST arrived. Like no kidding! I got it minutes ago LOL. Funny that you have it on your StS this week. I hope you enjoy, it was pretty damn great:-)

I got Confessions of an Almost Girlfriend also, I liked book 1 but I'm hoping the sequel will be better.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading.

Books always make you feel better. :)
ReplyDeleteLegend is amazing. It's one of my favourite YA books, and the sequel is just as good. I'm cutting back on Cassie Clare books because, at least to me, the recent ones don't seem so great.
Hope you enjoy your haul.
My STS.
I really enjoyed Legend and a Fatal Likeness looks pretty interesting. I've never seen it before :) Awesome haul!

ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to read Legend for what feels like forever. I have a copy of the book, but so far it's just collected dust on my bookshelf :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I soooo need to get my hands on What Really Happened in Peru. Magnus Bane is awesome! I can't wait for the City of Bones movie.
Enjoy your goodies (good luck apartment hunting) and happy reading :)
Ohh, we got Legend at the same time! :D
ReplyDeleteLegend is an enjoyable book, but is also similar to any other dystopian books out there. I heard that the sequel, Prodigy, is A LOT better. I have to read that soon.
And don't feel bad for buying books, buying books are supposed to make you happy! And don't worry, your hardwork towards apartment hunting will always pay off! :D
Enjoy reading all your books Carmen! (:

I got Confessions of an Almost Girlfriend too!! And I still need to read Legend as well. I just have to find my copy.. somewhere. LOL Hope you enjoy! Great haul :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the apartment hunting. It is never fun. Hope you find some time to relax and enjoy some of your new books.
ReplyDeleteHere are my newest additions
That's some good stuff right there. I still hope to get into the Almost Girlfriend tour... and I see an Ilona Andrews, which I generally would say is a good pick although I havent read much by her yet. What Really Happened in Peru is around quite some, and although I'm a fan of TMI, and especially of Alec and Magnus, I think I'm going to wait with this one. Like, the cherry on top, you know? ;)
ReplyDeleteAnyhoot, I hope you enjoy all your reads! =)
I wanted to wait a bit with the Magnus-y goodness too, but well... there will be several of them and I'm already waiting on so many other things ;) And I'm really curious about Ilona Andrews! Thanks for stopping by, I'm replying here because I couldn't find a book haul post on your site.
DeleteI hope you like Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend! I loved the first book too. I totally should read the second one at some point. :) I adore the cover!

I got Legend too!!! I love how in some parts of the book, the text is gold instead of black ink. Happy reading (:

I got Legend too. I think I also have Magic Graves on my Kindle. I love both Jeaniene Frost and Ilona Andrews! Come and see what I got this week at Ms. Martin Teaches Media and Inside of a Dog. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI really liked Legend if I remember correctly! (It's been quite awhile since I read it) I also want to read Destiny's Fire. Good luck apartment hunting- I really need to get on the ball and start doing that myself!

Nice new books. A Fatal Likeness sounds fascinating. Enjoy your new reads!
ReplyDeleteHere's my haul: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2013/04/sundays-weekly-book-recap-15.html
I loved Legend, and the sequel is pretty amazing, too. I'm kicking myself right now because the author was doing a signing this week and with everything else I had going on, it slipped my mind. :( Anyway, I like the looks of A Fatal Likeness. I haven't read anything literary in awhile either. :( And I, too, am very curious to see what a Clare/Brennan collaborative effort will read like. Great haul...hope you enjoy all your new reads!
ReplyDeleteAwww sorry this moving stuff is still being a major bummer *hugs* I'm still hoping you find an even better place soon and I'm glad you were able to find some bookish comfort :) You got some sweet books, Legend is one that's been on my wishlist for far too long now - can't wait to read your thoughts one it! Also kinda jelly that you get to spend some time with Magnus;) I freaking love that Warlock ♥ Oh and that Magic Graves one is new to me too, I'll have to check it out when I start Jeaniene Frost's series...soon, I hope! A Fatal Likeness looks awesome too :D Congrats on ALL of these hun & enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYeah the whole moving thing is a lot worse than I thought :( I'm 90% sure I'll have to move back with my parents for a couple weeks, which sucks because I go from the country's biggest city back to a village with 700 people, and I'll have to commute to uni every day and basically lose my independence generally.
DeleteAnyway... escapism through books! Oh yes how I love Magnus ^^ I think this one will be hilarioous because Sarah Rees Brennan is co-writing it and I love her sense of humor! And you really should check out Jeaniene Frost, I think if you like the Darkfever books, hers should appeal to you as well ;) Thanks so much for stopping by hun! Your comments really brighten my lately rather bleak days *hugs*
