Waiting on Wednesday: Marie Antoinette - Serial Killer, by Katie Alender

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine to spotlight upcoming book releases that we're excited about.

My pick this week:

Release date: October 1, 2013
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Format: Hardcover, 304 pages

Goodreads description:
Colette Iselin is excited to go to Paris on a class trip. She’ll get to soak up the beauty and culture, and maybe even learn something about her family’s French roots.

But a series of gruesome murders are taking place across the city, putting everyone on edge. And as she tours museums and palaces, Colette keeps seeing a strange vision: a pale woman in a ball gown and powdered wig, who looks suspiciously like Marie Antoinette.

Colette knows her popular, status-obsessed friends won’t believe her, so she seeks out the help of a charming French boy. Together, they uncover a shocking secret involving a dark, hidden history. When Colette realizes she herself may hold the key to the mystery, her own life is suddenly in danger . . .

Acclaimed author Katie Alender brings heart-stopping suspense to this story of revenge, betrayal, intrigue — and one killer queen.

I heard of this one on Fiktshun's side-blog some time last week and fell in love instantly. I adore historicals and I've had soft spot for Marie Antoinette ever since watching Sophia Coppola's movie version with Kirsten Dunst. Also, serial killers! And a cute French boy. Yeah, I think this one has definite awesomeness potential! What do you guys think? And what book did you pick this week?

  6. That sounds really cool!
I've always been interested in her life story but I haven't read any fiction on her. Do you know any good books about her?

    1. Hey :) I'm responding here since I couldn't find the link to your blog in your google+ profile...
I don't think I've read any books exclusively about her, it was basically what I know from history class. But I think the Coppola movie shows her journey quite well! There's also an older glamor-star movie from the 30s that I've seen snippets off in a university class about queens and how they constitute their power. But I don't think I know any fiction, which is actually a pity... but I just checked goodreads and I think this one looks very promising :)
